STAVROS MANTIS -
BARITONE
"Tra i singoli, da sottolineare la grandiosa prova di carisma scenico e vocale di Stavros Mantis nei panni di Alfio, applaudito a scena aperta dal pubblico in sala più e più volte".

Stavros Mantis è un buon Alfio e probabilmente andrebbe a lui la palma per la miglior resa vocale: colore brunito, grande sicurezza nei propri mezzi, una voce che passa l’orchestra senza nemmeno risentirne, una bella intelligenza musicale.
Luca Fialdini

Stavros Mantis possesses a powerful and extended baritone voice with a warm and burnished quality. His voice exhibits remarkable agility, allowing him to tackle a wide range of operatic repertoire, from dramatic to comedic roles.
With his technical proficiency in legato singing, he showcases a dark and rounded tone that remains consistent throughout his vocal range. Combined with his remarkable stage presence, he is often called upon to interpret roles in the Verdi and verismo repertoire, for which he also possesses the physique du rôle.
In recent years, Stavros has achieved significant milestones in his operatic career. He made his debut as Andrea in Mascagni's opera "Pinotta" at the Mascagni Festival in Livorno. Additionally, he captivated audiences with his portrayal of Barone Scarpia in "Tosca," and his introduction as Dulcamara in "Elisir d'amore" in September 2023. Notably, Stavros had the privilege of singing the role of Alfio in Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" at Teatro Goldoni di Livorno. This performance marked the European premiere of the original version of the celebrated opera.
Furthermore, Stavros made his cinematographic debut as an actor-singer in the film-opera adaptation of Mario Menicagli's work, "Dodici Anni Dopo," directed by Valerio Groppa. In the film, he portrayed the complex character of Alfio.
In April 2008, Stavros made his theatrical debut as Masetto in "Don Giovanni" under the baton of Claudio Desderi at the Teatro Alfieri di Asti. Since then, he has expanded his repertoire and performed numerous roles including Don Giovanni, Leporello, Papageno (sung in Greek), Guglielmo, Giorgio Germont, Ezio, Marcello, Gianni Schicchi, Sharpless, Alfio, Tonio, Belcore, and King Melchior, among others.
Apart from his operatic endeavors, Stavros Mantis has also explored the sacred repertoire. He has performed solo baritone (or bass) parts in works such as Mascagni's and Puccini's "Messa di Gloria," Brahms's "Ein Deutsches Requiem," and Mozart's "Requiem."
In recognition of his talent, Stavros has won prestigious awards, including the "VI International Opera Competition of the City of Ferrara" and the "XIV International Competition 'Spazio Musica' of Orvieto" (the only winner of the specific version). He has been a finalist in various international competitions and has been the recipient of several scholarships. Notably, he was also a finalist in the "I Competition for Mascagni Voices."
Stavros Mantis was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, and from an early age, he showed a passion for music. He began his musical training by studying bassoon and became an esteemed bassoon player in the State Youth Orchestra of the Republic of Cyprus for several years. However, his true calling was discovered when he undertook his first vocal lessons in Athens.
To further develop his vocal abilities, Stavros decided to pursue vocal studies in Italy. He had the privilege of studying for two years with the renowned Venetian tenor Gianfranco Cecchele. During his time in Italy, he also attended various music academies, participated in advanced courses, opera studios, and performing art workshops. Notable among the academies he attended are the Mascagni Academy in Livorno and the Accademia del Teatro Stabile and Teatro Regio di Torino.
Beyond his musical pursuits, Mr. Mantis holds a Master's Degree (MEng) in Electronic Engineering from The University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He is multilingual, fluent in Greek, Italian, English, and the Cypriot dialect.
